Dr. Alex Keller

Naturopathic Doctor

My professional journey started way back in 2003 at the University of Ottawa where I studied Health Sciences and Psychology. Although originally intending to attend conventional medical school, after an amazing and challenging three-month volunteer internship at a rural Kenyan hospital where I observed how doctors used local food to treat patients, I was inspired to practice a more complete system of medicine, which led me to study naturopathic medicine at CCNM

After graduating and starting my practice with the trail-blazing  Dr. Chris Pickrell, ND, RH in a community acupuncture setting, in 2015 my wife (Dr. Jenn Keller, ND) and I moved to rural Ottawa where we started an organic farm. In the same year, I joined forces with my sister Jess Keller to build an integrative physical therapy clinic, which we operated successfully for seven years until the COVID-19 pandemic forced its closure. In 2022, I joined the amazing team at Manotick Health & Wellness and currently consult with patients in-person and virtually across Ontario.

Some additional training I've completed and organizations I support:

  • College of Naturopaths of Ontario

  • Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors

  • Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors

  • Sports Nutrition Certification (International Society of Sports Nutrition)

  • Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (Institute for Functional Medicine)

  • Masters of Business Administration (Quantic School of Business & Technology)

Ever curious and passionate about the education of evidence-based natural medicine, in 2017, I joined an Ottawa-based health tech startup named Fullscript, where I serve as Medical Director and oversee the development of research and medical education content for practitioners across North America. Along the way, I thought it'd be a brilliant idea to complete an MBA, which taught me a lot about business ... and resilience!

As a former provincial-level athlete in rugby and competitive-level athlete in football, hockey, and soccer, I have a deep respect for the influence athletics and movement can have on a person's overall health, especially mental health. I loved running so much that I combined it with my other passion of spending time in nature and took up the sport of ultra-running, which involves racing +50km on trails, usually over a few mountains. Jenn still doesn't understand how I enjoy this. Maybe you do?

In my spare time, Jenn and I chase around our children (Oliver, Isla and Alastair) and tend to the everyday duties that come with operating an organic farm.

That's it from me. Now I want to hear your story!
